i can't help but smile when i think about this engagement session. it was so cute the way that these two would giggle when ever i had them do the cheesy look eachother in the eyes pose! so sweet and kind to eachother. i knew it was going to be that way right from the beginning when austin saw that mary jo was having some trouble fastening her sandles and was right there to take over and take care of her. i am looking forward to the wedding in august!

2011 Senior Spokesmodels Wanted

If you just finished your junior year-- this is your opportunity!

Are you friendly, outgoing, involved in extra-curricular activities, and willing to promote Elizabeth Somes Images amongst your friends and classmates to make some extra money? You could be what I'm looking for in a Senior Spokesmodel. I will be selecting up to two 2011 seniors from each local area high school to represent our studio.

Your perks include an early mini-session the spring/summer before your senior year with websized images to post on facebook and wallet prints to hand out to your friends and classmates (at no charge). In the fall of your senior year another longer session is included with a brag book, plenty of wallets to hand out, and the websized images to post online.

For each new client that you refer (that books/completes/pays for their session) you receive a $25 referral bonus!

Your job? Simple. Look fabulous for your portraits and spread the news! To make things even more interesting we are also awarding the spokesmodel with the highest number of referrals an extra bonus--but that is still a surprise!

Mike and Rebecca were real troopers for this chilly pre-spring engagement session! I appreciated their genuine affection for each other. We started with some traditional shots at the studio, went down town where we took plenty of gushy, lovey-dovey stuff, and also some stunning fashion shots. We could hear the St. Patricks Day festivities while we scouted the alleyways to find our favorite spots! We finished up at The Butterworth House. I enjoyed the different, kind of darker/mysterious look of that property during this time of year.

Easter Chicks Mini Sessions

On Saturday March 20th (one day only!) we will have live baby chicks in the studio and will be offering Easter Mini Sessions!

Sessions are 180.00 and include: 20 minute session, 8-10 images on a cd (full resolution with print release) and a folio (your choice of color: Pink, Blue, Green, or Yellow) that holds your choice of two 5x5's. These sessions always fill up very quickly so call now to book your session!

Kane 1 Year Photo Session

Christy and Todd brought in their son Kane for his 1 year old photos... This little boy is definately full of spirit and going to be a hearbreaker! In typical little boy fashion he wanted nothing but cars and to do the opposite of what we wanted him to do. At the end of the session we gave him the freedom to demolish a little cake made just for him and he certainly did just that! The question is did he have more fun or did his mom and I have more fun watching him. We had a fun time as always and I am looking forward to seeing this little heartbreaker in the future! ~Nicole~

They're my brothers kids and we're a little unsure because my other brother is expecting a baby and what do we call that baby...the new baby? Anyway, "the babies" came to visit us at the studio and oh my, they had other ideas...we'll just blame it on molars? But we still had fun and got some sweet captures!

Josh and Debbie were married on Friday, Sept. 18th. It was magic! I enjoyed every minute at this wedding. The scenery and weather were absolutely gorgeous. The ceremony began just as the sun set behind the trees. It was so beautiful. Then the reception offered plenty of laughs (best man's speech), tears (maid of honor's speech), and surprises (fireworks). Congrats to the happy couple!

Brian was so cool to work with. We were laughing the whole time! We started at the studio, went downtown to some sweet back alleys, tried out a new location near a power plant, and took a few shots at the railroad tracks. It was a great session. Elizabeth Somes Images is happy to welcome Jennifer Jayne to our staff!

Jennifer has been professionally photographing in the Q.C. for over five years. Her specialty is working with babies. She has a natural talent for capturing the innocence, imagination, and personality of her pint-sized subjects. Her work is fun and creative. She is always looking for new and interesting ideas to make each session unique.

We have changed some of our collection items to showcase her signature collages. We are also implementing some fun features such as the Baby Club! You can see the web-site for more details.

The full digi-session is a full length session with virtually unlimited outfits/props, 20-30 beautifully edited, full resolution images on disk with print permissions (also conveniently uploaded to www.mpix.com an online printing store), and a 4x6 professional print of each image. A variety of custom designed collages will be created for you to view and purchase separately if you would like. The full digi-session investment amount is only $350 for all of this!

Doug and Shawna Engagement

Shawna and Doug are getting married Sept. 5th, 2009. I am so excited for their wedding day. They are such a fun and interesting couple to spend time with! Our original plan for their engagement session was to photograph them on the river (in their natural summer habitat) boating, but unfortunately the boat experienced a little malfunction the day before and we weren't able to use it for the shoot. We did, however, still spend some time by the rivers edge and it was amazing to see these two open up and be themselves during the session. I had a wonderful time, hopping from spot to spot and I am glad that we were able to make some images that are truely unique for them.

May 16th 2009--What a day for a wedding. The sun was shining and the cool breeze was pretty enjoyable for the most part. Kurt and Pams wedding ceremony was at St. Pius in Rock Island with a stop off for picture taking at the Deere-Wineman/Butterworth house, and then on to the reception at TPC at Deere Run. Everything went off with out a hitch (well, except for the two of them getting hitched, lol). The setting at Deere run was perfect for lot's of great portraits that I know Kurt and Pam will enjoy for many years to come. It was a pleasure working with these two and their wonderful friends and family! I can't wait to hear about the honeymoon in Italy and share the images with the happy couple when they return! Ciao! road trip

It was a 'one in a million' photo-shoot. It was interesting, emotional, silly, serious, fun, and candid. It was a little road trip into the country with Lynn Denato. Lynn is so unique and inspires me to live in the moment--EVERY MOMENT. She has been shaken to her core by things outside of her control, and still has a bright smile and can-do attitude. She was nervous in front of the camera at first, but as we got rolling, her personality really started to shine through. At one point we even switched places and she took a few shots of me!! It was such a good time being out in nature and fresh air. It was a session I will not soon forget.

I know many of you have been waiting for our monthly baby theme mini-sessions to begin! So, let's go!!

The may theme is "Bathtime for Baby". The mini-session is only $75.00 and includes an 8x10, (2)5x7, (8)wallets, also the option to purchase the (3-5) fully edited images in high resolution on a disk with copyright permission and other print sizes separately.

We are already planning the next theme for June. It will be "Born in the U.S.A.". A patriotic theme for babies, toddlers, and children. When you call to schedule your session be sure to tell us it is for the monthly theme!

melissa and les engagement

It is always fun to photograph old friends, especially when it is for such a happy occasion! Melissa and I have pretty much grown up together and gone through a lot. In all of these years I have never seen her as happy as she is with Les. We are all so excited about their engagement and counting down the days to the wedding! Newborn sessions are always interesting. You never know what you are going to get. Will the baby be sleepy? awake? happy? cranky? It is amazing how a session can turn out so well even if the newborn is crying non-stop! It's dificult for the parent to believe when the leave the studio that we were able to accomplish anything, but usually they are very pleasantly surprised when they see the outcome.

This session was no exception. A.J. was quiet sometimes, crying sometimes, peeing(lol) sometimes, and luckily after it was all said and done we had tons of great shots!

rainy day romance

It might have been because both moms were watching and periodically yelling out off the wall, hilarious comments in an attempt to get Chris to show some teeth! (I can't even repeat some of the things these ladies were saying..lol!)
It was fun, and it must have worked because we got some great shots.
Jaylee and Chris are just getting settled in Texas, and I look forward to seeing them again on their wedding day, here in Illinois.

france: september 2008

I have had a lot of inquiries about my travels in France this past fall. The blog is a perfect way to share a few of the images from that trip. It was a wonderful experience, but WAY too short! France is a small country, but there is something to see in every village, and a village every few miles! Six weeks was just enough to scratch the surface, it was a dream. The people I met along the way were all increadibly sweet and always trying to speak English to make me feel welcome. They were also very cool about putting up with my attempts to speak French! I hope to go back with in the next 6 months, and spend some time in Italy and/or Spain.

The cold weather brought a good time to re-organize, re-think, and re-vamp things around the studio. The web-site was definately no exception! I am really excited to have launched the new and (much) improved Elizabeth Somes Images website this last week. My intention is to have a site that offers a better showcase of my work, a blog for more interaction, and private galleries that are equipped for efficient viewing and ordering.

You are welcome to subscribe to the blog to keep tabs on what is happening with the studio. For example we have plans to begin a seasonal newsletter, we are also starting a themed 'mini-session' day once every 3-4 months(primarily for baby/children, but possibly a boudoir mini-session near valentines day), and have a few new ideas that we are looking for volunteers to try (ie: trash the wedding/prom dress session), and much more.
